One Turn Kill Bosses: Boss Guide and Stats

One Turn Kill bosses are the sequential combat encounters across each run that players must eliminate within a single turn to prevent lethal counterattacks. Each opponent features distinct level-scaled health pools, card disruption mechanics, and specific phase triggers across difficulty settings.

What Are the Core Boss Mechanics in One Turn Kill?

Turn-based pacing is the core survival rule in every encounter because failing to defeat an opponent in one turn results in defeat. Card plays cost card draws directly from your 20-card deck, making resource control vital when planning attack chains. As detailed on the Steam store page:

"Drawing cards from the deck costs card uses. Enjoy highly reproducible combos with abundant draws while also strategizing to avoid running out of cards." — the official Steam store page description

Each opponent belongs to a route that tests distinct deck capabilities. Before challenging the storyline enemies, players can test draw sequences against the scarecrow, a target dummy that features 999 HP on Level 1 and 99,999 HP with regeneration on Level 2. During campaign runs, clearing boss levels raises your total BIAS score, which rewards upgrade chips and unlocks active skills up to BIAS 15.

How Do Main Story Bosses Scale Across BIAS Levels?

Story bosses are graded opponents whose health totals and disruptive abilities expand between Level 1 and Level 5. Players set enemy levels from 1 to 5 at camp before departing, and the combined sum determines the run's BIAS difficulty. Reaching the game's true ending requires departing with a total BIAS of 15 or higher and completing every encounter without skipping battles.

Guard Captain

The Guard Captain is the vanguard security encounter guarding the facility entrance. He possesses no default passives at lower ranks, serving as a baseline check for basic draw-and-damage cycles.

  • Level 1: 120 HP
  • Level 2: 200 HP
  • Level 3: 300 HP
  • Level 4: 450 HP with a special ability that turns all cards in hand into Fragile cards after approximately 16 cards are played
  • Level 5: 600 HP with the Fragile-infliction ability active

When challenging Level 4 or Level 5, the Captain triggers his Fragile ability only once. If you hold an Axim Core or use Transcode to return cards to the deck, you can prevent your entire hand from being destroyed on subsequent actions.

Scythe User Azwen

Azwen is a scythe-wielding cultist whose primary threat comes from deck contamination. Every 3 cards you play, she injects unplayable Overload cards into your draw pile, gradually diluting your deck until you draw dead and run out of cost.

  • Level 1: 160 HP
  • Level 2: 250 HP
  • Level 3: 250 HP with an ability that adds Overload cards every 3 card plays
  • Level 4: 450 HP with enhanced Overload generation and Judgment events
  • Level 5: 650 HP with maximum Overload frequency and Judgment events

From Level 4 onward, Azwen presents Judgment choices. These allow you to sacrifice a hand card to remove Overload cards from your deck or hand. To bypass her junk dilution, open with high-cost cards like Assassin's Sign to maintain hand volume before Overload cards settle into the draw pile.

Swordsman Bulk

Swordsman Bulk is an elite warrior who steals your tempo by sealing cards in your hand. Reserved cards become unusable for 5 turns unless they are moved back into the deck through active skills or deck-cycling cards.

  • Level 1: 220 HP
  • Level 2: 300 HP
  • Level 3: 350 HP with an opening turn ability that targets hand cards for sealing
  • Level 4: 550 HP with a passive that restores Bulk's HP by 10 points per sealed card
  • Level 5: 900 HP with instant, complete card seals and enhanced healing

As recorded in Zent130's strategy notes, cards marked by Bulk can be cleansed by using the Reload skill to shuffle them into the deck and draw fresh replacements. Transcode and Way Home also help remove seal tags before Bulk triggers his regeneration passive.

Which Route Boss Should You Choose: D-rex or the Priest?

Route selection is an encounter fork available from Level 3 onward between the mechanical unit D-rex and the corrupted Priest. Players choose between taking the upper corridor to fight D-rex or descending the stairs to face the mutated Priest.

D-rex acts as a pure execution speed test. Instead of waiting for card triggers, D-rex advances along a real-time track and executes an instant defeat attack if you fail to reach damage thresholds within approximately 40 seconds.

  • Level 1: 180 HP
  • Level 2: 250 HP
  • Level 3: 350 HP
  • Level 4: 450 HP with a passive that increases the cost of all hand cards by 1 upon recovery
  • Level 5: 650 HP with cost-increase penalties triggering immediately at battle start

The Priest, by contrast, removes the time limit but forces you to pick one of three Judgment curses every few turns:

  • All-Seeing Eye: Progressively strips away card rules text, deck numbers, card illustrations, numerical stats, and eventually blacks out the display completely on tier 5.
  • Hand of Salvation: Randomizes hand card costs to 0–3, 1–4, 2–5, 3–6, and finally 10–13.
  • Heart of Compassion: Causes the Priest to recover HP every time you play a card, scaling from +5 HP per card up to +99 HP per card on tier 5.

Choosing D-rex is preferable when using rapid input chains or carrying the Downclock skill, which pauses the timer for 3 card plays. The Priest is easier for players running a best deck built around Procyon Device and Heavy Blow, which can overpower boss healing through raw damage scaling.

How Do You Defeat Rita and My Dream?

The final encounter is a two-phase continuous battle against Rita and her manifestation My Dream. Defeating Rita at BIAS 15 or higher immediately transitions into the My Dream confrontation without resetting your hand or draw pile.

Rita enters combat with a fixed health pool of 300 HP. Her passive rotates across three effects whenever she takes damage:

  1. Increases all hand card costs by 1.
  2. Decreases all hand card costs by 1.
  3. Sets 1 card in hand to 0 cost, 0 attack power, and applies Fragile.

Managing Rita requires counting damage hits to ensure she stops on cost reductions rather than cost increases before you deliver the finishing blow. Immediately upon Rita's defeat, My Dream emerges with 400 HP.

My Dream immediately casts Seal 10, placing a heavy lock on target cards that requires 10 card plays to remove. She also inserts 3 Regret cards into your deck. Regret cards cost 2, reduce incoming enemy damage by 6 while held in your hand, and heal the boss for 15 HP if discarded. To secure victory, bank zero-cost attacks and high-damage finishers during the end of Rita's phase so you can eliminate My Dream in a single opening burst before Regret cards clog your hand.
